Technology Backfire: Racist camera?

As technology progresses, some "improvements" will inevitably backfire. A good example: one of the latest features of point-and-shoot digital cameras analyzes just-taken images and tries to determine if one of the subjects was blinking, notifying the user to take another shot. Call it a calibration issue, perhaps, but blogger Jozjozjoz noticed that the camera thought her (and her family's) Asian eyes were always closed. Oops. Especially ironic, I think, from Nikon - a Japanese camera maker...
